Seabed Explorer is a compact system ideal for creating geo-referenced bathymetric maps. It can be configured for various needs and can be installed on small RIBs, on catamarans, and stand alone man portable for inspections in extremely tight environments.


Seabed Explorer can be used in the following operations:

  • Bathymetric pools on the seabed;
  • Sidescan images of the backdrop;
  • 3D sonar surveys of the bottom structures;
  • Optional 3D photogrammetric surveys; 
  • Optional Integrated Sonar + Lidar pads above and below the sea surface;
  • Monitoring of underwater structures;
  • Monitoring of sediment volume by dredging or nourishment.

The system uses signals from heterogeneous sensors, with a data fusion technique based on EKF (Extended Kalman Filter), for a precise estimate of the position and layout of the boat, essential for creating high quality images. 

Embedded navigation sensors in Seabed Explorer are IMU, GPS, and Doppler Velocity Log (DVL).

Seabed Explorer processes data in real-time to provide accurate estimation of movement in space (angular accelerations and angles, trim, orientation, position, and speed).

 "SeaBed Explorer in action"


Last October "SeaBed Explorer" (our product) carried out the survey of an underwater cave located in the splendid setting of Polignano a Mare, near Bari.
"SeaBed Explorer" is an innovative product for marine exploration, belonging to the product line DA-RT (brand owned by Info Solution S.p.A. born in 2017 and dedicated to autonomous vehicles - www.da-rt.com).
It was born from a project started several years ago, "Roby Marine", within the Research and Innovation area of the company that uses artificial intelligence techniques and autonomous robotic perception.

The survey was requested by the company Favellato Claudio Spa, Construction Company and Services Management, and in collaboration with Università Milano Bicocca, to monitor the degree of erosion of the marine structure below the coast, and thus be able to intervene where necessary with interventions of Consolidation. The team that carried out the inspection was composed of Eng. Muolo for Info Solution, from the customer's staff and a team of divers speleologists.

The SeaBed Explorer, equipped with geo-referencing tools, a video camera, a high-resolution camera and an interferometric sonar, was guided by the diver to perform the survey, see fig. n.1.
An example of the data detected is visible in fig. n.2 "Georeferenced 3d profiles of submarine structures".

On this occasion we also tried a still experimental 3D reconstruction technique with photogrammetry for high resolution image acquisition.
